Madonna Murti

Sipari Mai  - The Miracle Statue

She is known to the Christians on the Island as the Holy Shepphardess,  the Hindus call her Mother Kali - the black Goddess.  One of the legends speculating her arrival to Trinidad surrounds the notion that she was brought here from Venezuela.  The men from the village who orginally housed her embarked on a perilous journey but for all their might could not lift her and therefore they journeyed home as defeated men.

Today, the Sipari Mai statue is revered by all who chose to visit her at a small church in Siparia.  It is said and many insist that praying to the Goddess with a sincere heart opens up her compassion to grant wishes.  Women who cannot have children miraculously become pregnant, peace is created in the individual's household. Prayers are answered.  This is the vision behind the piece , through the testimony of the believers.
